In-Country Workshop on Web Journalism in Maldives

The training will give the participants an introduction about the
information extraction from the Internet. Using already known sources, like search machines, more effective and showing new sources. The online publication of the news on the web, will be covered too and the major part of the training. For the publication the participants have to set up an own blog, on a blogging platform.

The training will give the participants an introduction about the information extraction from the Internet. Using already known sources, like search machines, more effective and showing new sources. The online publication of the news on the web, will be covered too and the major part of the training. For the publication the participants have to set up an own blog, on a blogging platform.

The following topics will be covered in this workshop:

  1. Overview of news sources (website)
  2. Introduction into RSS Feeds
  3. Advanced searching the web
  4. Newsgroups, Discussion Boards, Mailing lists
  5. Reliability of online news sources
  6. Writing for the Web
  7. Promoting a website
  8. Setting up a blog on blogspot.com or other platforms
  9. Creating an own online presence with Wordpress
  10. Preparing pictures and other content for the web
  11. Integration of new media like streaming video

The workshop is open to news writers, reporters and editors with
journalistic experience. Participants should have a working knowledge of
computers and the Internet with a maximum age of 35 years. The duration
of training should be 5 days for 10 - 12 participants only. Each
participant will need a computer. Whiteboard, LCD projector and a
suitable classroom for 12 participants are also required.
