Media convergence is increasingly shaping how newsrooms in broadcast, print and online news agencies behave and operate to deliver news and attract more audiences. Its aims are to generate a better flow of information, effective use of resources , more communication and more sharing of content across media platforms. This phenomenon demands much from a journalist. He must become a convergent journalist, able to deliver news in any and all media, to recognize the best medium for a particular story, be it the web, broadcast, radio, or a newspaper or magazine, or all of the above, and use a mix of technology to enhance content. A convergent journalist requires a working knowledge of multimedia to be effective. He must have a good grasp of blogs, videoblogs, wikis and podcasting and their capabilities. These platforms have enabled more citizens to contribute and produce content.. Citizens’ journalism is taking a foothold in the media landscape, and journalists must be able to exploit content citizens generate. Objectives:
- To provide an overview of media convergence, its strengths and weaknesses, and its impact on the newsrooms and the journalists.
- To learn storytelling, writing, and packaging techniques that will meet the needs of various media, whether web, broadcast, print, or all of the above .
