Marcel Gomez, Programme Manager, joined the Institute in 1985. A Malaysian trained in video production and specializes in Television News Production and Information Technology. Prior to joining AIBD, he was involved in various media since 1977.

In 1989, Marcel introduced Computerised Radio Newsroom system to the region through a workshop using the Basys system.

In 1993 developed the AIBD local area network and the computer lab with Internet facilities. AIBD's website was developed and launched in 1995. He introduced Interactive Computer Aided Instruction (ICAI) training programme. This lead to the pioneering of CD ROM based distance learning. In 1997 developed and produced AIBD's first training programme on CD ROM .

The Cyber Journalist programme was developed in 1998 for journalists to use the resources and tools available on the Internet.

Since 1999 he is involved in the development of the regional Digital Resources and Information Centre Project.
