Overview

The Manual is a joint publication of the co-operative efforts between the Asian Mass Communication Research and Information Centre (AMIC) and the Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD).

The purpose of this book is to sharpen the perceptions of development broadcasting and to allow the broadcaster to be more sensitive to the needs and requirements not only of the listeners but also those from whom policy emanates.

Development communication as similar to other professional disciplines are based on applied theory. There should be neither pure academician nor pure practitioner. Each must take on some of the attributes and preoccupation of the other . Therefore the manual is presented with a blend of theory and practice. It is divided into two parts. The Units in Part 1 deal with the process and environment of communication. The remainder of the Manual Part 11, deals with the role of radio in development broadcasting and formats for developing programmes.
