AIBD TV Awards on Climate Change and Sustainable Development

The AIBD in line with its Strategic Plan and with a view to promote quality programming for various target audience groups, has initiated the following TV Award that will recognize the achievement of Television producers in the Asia- Pacific region. In 2008, AIBD will present recognition Award for television programmes in the category:

- The best Television Programme on Climate Change and Sustainable Development -

The prize of the above Award, supported by KBS Korea, will be a cash prize of US$ 1,000.00, along with a trophy and certificate from the AIBD. In selecting programmes for entry, broadcasters are encouraged to pay attention to the respective criteria as detailed in the attachment, which will be referenced during the judging process. These will allow judges to compare programmes of different presentation on equal basis.

An entry form (enclosed) and a copy of the TV programme should reach the AIBD not later than May 15, 2008. The programme, if not in English language, must have English subtitles.

Topic
The best Television programme on climate change and sustainable development may cover challenges and initiatives in addressing climate change, reducing air pollution, promoting energy efficiency the use of cleaner and sustainable renewable energy and reforestation. It may also reflect stories on reducing deforestation, forest degradation or forest fires and combating illegal logging and its associated trade. It may also include challenges/initiatives on the sustainable management and use of our biodiversity such as forest, coastal and marine ecosystems and environments and other natural resources.

All the TV programmes will be judged according to the following two criteria

Idea:
· Is the subject relevant for the theme?
· How effective is the programme in dealing with this issue?
· Is it properly targeted?
· Does it communicate the underlying purpose of the programme?
· Is it instructive, creative and innovative?
· Does it convey a relevant message to the viewers?
· Does it capture and hold their attention?

Production values:
· Are the sets, the camera work, the lighting and the sound quality coordinated so as to enhance the presentation?
· Do the casting, writing, directing, editing, etc., convey the idea of this programme effectively to the viewer?

Technical requirements

The programme, if not in English, must have English subtitles.
The TV programme should be at least 10 minutes.

Dead line

An entry form (enclosed) and a copy of the TV programme should reach the AIBD not later than May 15, 2008.
