The Elizabeth R Award for Exceptional Contribution to Public Service Broadcasting has been awarded to Javad Mottaghi, Director, Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development. The award was presented during the General Assemby of Commonwealth Broadcasting Association in Tonga on 11th February 2009.
The award cites that Javad "has worked tirelessly for many years on the development of the broadcasting industry, in particular promoting the ideals of public service broadcasting. The judges were truly impressed by the international nature of his contributions."
AIBD Annual Awards were established to promote effective human resource development and training policy as well as quality TV and Radio programmes among AIBD members. Each year, the topics for the categories are determined by the Strategic Plan Team of AIBD. The winners are granted with a Cash Prize and a Trophy presented during the General Conference of the institute. The AIBD Awards are open to AIBD members only.
With the aim of recognising the crucial role played by media in increasing the awareness of the audience on major issues such as cultural diversity, understanding, tolerance and peace, this Award was designed by the Asia - Pacific Europe Partnership Committee and established in 2004 with the recommandation of the AIBD.
The World Award is open to all broadcasters in Asia, Pacific, Europe, Africa, and North America from public, private sector and free lance producers. The award's theme alternates each year between The Best TV Documentary promoting religious tolerance and understanding and The Best TV Documentary contributing to conflict resolution.
